A day in Paris (June 03, 2006)
What does one do when one gets a day in Paris alone? I had no idea what I was gonna do. Started from Nice early morning. Had hardly slept last night. Was feeling sleepy in the flight but the great view of Alps made me forget the sleep.

Finally I arrived in Paris. It was a bit of chaos at the airport. I had known from previous experience that it is not one of the most user-friendly airport, so I was ready for all the mess. Finally I managed to find my way to subway station and bought the 2 day pass. I would always remember that Paris subway stations do not have rest rooms easily available. Korea has really spoiled me.
Cynthia had chalked out the plan for me and I knew I had to start from Arc de Triomphe. It was pretty warm and sunny day. Perhaps the best time to go around.

After that I decided to walk towards the Concorde to soak in the Paris ambience. It was a nice experience with the roadside bars and restaurants. And to my surprise SRK was hit here as well.

I was tired after sometime and the lack of sleep was showing on me, so I decided to get into a bus from half way through. Concorde reminded me of Trafalgar square in London. Kids enjoying the summer sun and the beautiful architecture.

I entered Tuileries and Carrousel gardens and realized that I have reached at a place which seemed so familiar. I was at Louvre. But as everyone suggested me that I have to choose between Louvre and rest of Paris, I decided to move on for the boat ride. I was planning to return to Louvre after that. Soon I realized that I made a mistake. It was a crash course on architecure of Paris. It was nice but felt more of a photo session of Paris. I decided to come back to Louvre and relax sometime in the
gardens.

It was getting late in the evening and I moved on towards Eiffel Tower. I was very tired but still wanted to walk on as that is what really gives you a feel of the city. The ambience at Eiffel tower reminded me of India Gate. It seemed like a perfect picnic spot. Lot of people were celebrating B'days or just enjoying a saturday evening get together.

Looking at the queue and finding out that top section is closed, I was wondering if it is worth climbing the tower. But after sometime I saw that top is also open and I decided to stand in the queue around 8pm. I did not have any other plan anyways but I was hoping that I can reach before sunset. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I had taken all day. After the initial hiccups in the queue and confusion over the queue for 3rd level, it was a very nice experience. The city looked beautiful from 2nd level. I decided to stay all evening there till the lights came up.

Lights at Eiffel Tower looked really beautiful.
I realized around midnight that I have not booked a hotel and I have to spend whole night on Paris streets. I guess it needs another blog entry for what happened next. Right now I am sleepy. :)
